Be light. Be brilliant. Be yourself. I’m so lucky to have had the privilege of capturing these moments for a brilliant young lady who does just that. She lights up the world. In fact, she seems to make each space she is in glow. As a photographer, I strive for capturing authentic moments — so I asked her, “what is your most favorite thing to do?” and without hesitation she shouted “TWIRL!” My heart was full. I grabbed my camera and snapped as fast as I could. I knew this was going to be THE special moment because she was truly in her happy place — just look at the joy on her face! It’s hard not to go to her happy place with her. I mean, why as adults do we forget these simply joys? If I could say to my boss “um…could you please hold that thought while I take a twirling break…” but I wouldn’t actually pose it as a question for permission because I planned to do it anyway…wouldn’t life be so much lighter?
Perhaps I see more in these photos because I am lucky enough to know this young lady and her story. She is a strong, talented, dedicated dancer and pianist. She volunteers her time at school, in her church and the community. She is a wonderful mentor and friend to my children. And behind every strong young lady, there is a brilliant and strong momma. Their connection is inspiring and unbreakable. Thank you both for the absolutely delightful time we spent capturing these special moments.
